The HCAT® Technology is based on a hydrocracking catalyst (HCAT) and a mixing system.
Process
The HCAT catalyst is chemically generated from a proprietary liquid precursor introduced into the reactor with residual oil feedstock. Once generated, this catalyst facilitates hydrogen transfer into large asphaltenes molecules which have limited access to the active sites of the solid catalyst, thus enabling the reactor to handle a wide range of feedstocks including heavier and less-costly feedstocks while maximizing yields and reducing coke, and asphaltene byproduct formation, and minimizing downstream equipment fouling.
Business Benefits
Incorporation of HCAT® Technology in an ebullated-bed unit or resid hydrocracker requires only a small capital investment to install the mixing technology. No other changes to the refinery are required as the amount of HCAT catalyst precursor can be adjusted to match the refinery’s operation and product requirements.
The use of the HCAT Technology will maximize
the economics of the ebullated-bed resid hydrocracker by
reducing sedimentation and fouling, thus providing the end user with an improved operating window.
refinEry observations
Commercial Proof
The effectiveness of the HCAT® Technology has been successfully demonstrated at a commercial scale in eight refineries. One of them has been using our technology on an ongoing basis since January 2010. HCAT has demonstrated the following advantages:
Benefit 1
Enable significant increase in residue conversion
Benefit 2
Extended cycle time for downstream equipment
Benefit 3
Enable the refinery to use more challenging feeds
Benefit 4
Enable the refinery to meet the new IMO regulations
HCAT® Support
HTI has a dedicated technical services team to provide valuable services to our HCAT customers, including:
CUSTOMER TRAINING
We provide specialized training and assistance to our HCAT clients.
START-UP ASSISTANCE
We provide engineering, design and supervise construction of the HCAT feed system equipment.
HTI’s HCAT Technical Services team is involved in checking conformance of the feed system, startup, and operation.
Lab support
We use our analytical and pilot plant assets to support HCAT clients with process performance and operating issues.
GOAL SUPPORT
We work with clients to meet their long-term unit optimization targets. HTI’s team is often on site to evaluate the performance of HCAT and ensure all the process objectives are met or exceeded.
seminar access
We sponsor various conferences and our HCAT customers are given access to those seminars.
networking
We provide network support where HCAT clients can address ebullated-bed operating issues and gain valuable insight on HCAT benefits.
