Founded in 1943 as Hydrocarbon Research Inc. (HRI), HTI has grown from a pioneering R&D lab into a global partner for energy innovators. 1943

Founded as Hydrocarbon Research, Inc. (HRI), the company begins pioneering work in synthetic fuels and hydrocarbon processing.

1950s

Advances reactor design and hydrogenation techniques, laying the groundwork for modern hydroprocessing.

1960s

Collaborates with industry leaders to test new refining processes, helping shape early commercial hydrocracking standards.

1970s

Leads early development of coal liquefaction and hydrocracking innovations.

1980s

Establishes PP testing services for commercial clients and US DOE.

1990s

Launches H-Coal®, DCL® and HCAT®

2000s

Expands pilot plant facilities and testing capabilities, including ebullated bed reactors, and broadens the application of HCAT Technology.

2010s

HCAT Technology growth: Supports renewable feedstock and co-processing research for top refiners.

2020s

Begins scaling novel plastics recycling and circular economy process testing.
